Connecting Through Prayer: Daily Minyan
Temple Israel has for decades been proud to prioritize the value of communal prayer by holding the only twice-daily egalitarian minyan in the South Area. Like Jews for generations before us, we create space to gather each weekday morning and evening to pray as a community. As the prayers of highest sanctity require community, a quorum of 10 adult Jews–a minyan–makes it possible to include these prayers and for mourners to recite the Mourners’ Kaddish.
All are welcome at daily minyan. Minyan attendees describe a wide variety of personal benefits to participation: prayer itself, regular sacred time, camaraderie, support when we or others are in mourning or acknowledging a yahrtzeit (the anniversary of a death), a moment outside the usual demands of our lives, a snack with friends before leaving, and more. Participants enjoy the camaraderie of the smaller gathering to shmooze a bit, catch up on current events, share a favorite joke, commiserate on a loss, or to make plans.
The Temple Israel Minyan Task Force works hard to keep our minyan viable and available to all. More information on their initiatives can be found here.
