Hessed

At Temple Israel, Hessed is more than just a concept—it’s a heartfelt commitment to supporting one another through life’s challenges and sharing in each other’s joys. Hessed describes a sense of love and loyalty that inspires merciful and compassionate behavior toward another.

Our caring and compassionate team at Temple Israel is dedicated to providing support and comfort to our members during times of need and change. Here’s how we make a difference:

Bereavement

When a member experiences the loss of a family member, our Hessed team springs into action to offer solace and support. We make personal contact with the bereaved family before the funeral, ensuring they know they are not alone during this difficult time. Additionally, we provide comforting items to the family, whether through a visit or delivery. As a gesture of remembrance and solidarity, we deliver honey to all members who have experienced bereavement in the past year, symbolizing sweetness and hope during the holidays.

Our Hessed team also extends a caring hand to members who are facing illness. We check in with those who are ill at home, offering words of encouragement and practical assistance. For individuals with long-term or serious illnesses, we knit cozy wraps to provide warmth and comfort. In times of need, we arrange for meals to be delivered, ensuring that members facing health challenges receive nourishment and support. Moreover, we undertake special projects tailored to individual needs, demonstrating our commitment to being there for our community members in every way possible.

Life is full of changes, and Hessed is there to help set you on your new path.  Whether you are a new Parent or a new Grandparent Hessed is there to help.   Hessed can also help with connections to make during a career change.

If someone you love needs help overcoming a difficult time in their lives, our wonderful and caring Clergy can help you through help. It is a mitzvah to help and ask for help.
