Kehillah High
Would you like your high school student to earn college credit?
Do they have questions about Israel’s history, current events, or how to talk about it with others?
Do they want to feel more confident engaging in thoughtful, informed conversations?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, Temple Israel has the perfect opportunity for your teen! We are proud that Kehillah High will partner with American Jewish University (AJU) to offer a college-credit course through the Jewish Learning Experience (JLE) for students in grades 9–12.
This year, we are offering:
“Understanding Israel: Its History, Culture, and People”
3.0 college credits
“Understanding Israel: Its History, Culture, and People”
3.0 college credits
This popular course explores the complexities of Israel’s story from historical foundations to modern-day challenges and introduces students to the many diverse voices within Israeli society. Together, we’ll explore the history, politics, and culture of Israel through multiple lenses, including Jewish, Arab, religious, secular, and diaspora perspectives. Students will build the skills needed to engage in respectful, informed dialogue about Israel, preparing them for college and beyond.
The class meets twice a month on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:00pm (Subject to change based on student availability), with a total of 16 sessions throughout the school year. Each session includes discussion-based learning, led by Rabbi Fineberg, Cantor Gloth, or Abby Newman Wallach, and includes dinner. Students will complete short assignments between sessions, including reading, videos, or podcasts, with brief quizzes to reinforce their learning. Office hours with Rabbi Carrie Vogel (AJU) are also available for support.
Students are officially enrolled through AJU, and all payments go directly to the university. For questions or to learn more, contact Abby Newman Wallach, Rabbi Fineberg, or email Rabbi Carrie Vogel at carrie.vogel@aju.edu.
